When it is your opportunity to save a life, will you be ready?

The pre-hospital emergency medical care provided by the Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts and our local healthcare partners is only one part of the response to sudden cardiac arrest. Bystander CPR and early use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) can make a critical difference before first responders arrive.

 

Here in Marengo, we offer American Heart Association CPR classes for community members, businesses, and healthcare providers. Our experienced instructors teach participants when and how to perform CPR, why early intervention is important, and how to properly use an AED. Sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere, and knowing what to do can help you be prepared when it matters most.

Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts does not offer American Red Cross CPR courses. If your employer requires American Red Cross certification, or if you prefer training through the American Red Cross, please use the link below to search for available courses in your area.

If you are interested in being prepared to help someone in their time of need, please register for one of the course options below.

American Heart Association - Class Finder

Heartsaver CPR Course (Heartsaver CPR)

Heartsaver courses are designed for individuals without prior medical experience or training. For most applications, Heartsaver courses are the appropriate choice for the general public.​

Cost: $55.00

Prerequisites: none

Class Details:

  • CPR & AED use

  • Relief of Choking in adults and children

  • Infant CPR and relief of choking

  • Heartsaver AED Card

  • CPR Card​

BLS Provider (Healthcare Professionals)

Courses are designed for healthcare professionals and related fields. These courses use medical terminology and assume that the students have basic medical knowledge. If this course is for employment purposes, be sure to check with your employer to determine which course is preferred.

Location: Marengo Fire Protection District 120 E. Prairie St. Marengo, IL 60152

Cost: $60

Prerequisites: none

Class Details:

  • Adult and Pediatric CPR

  • One-Rescuer & Two-Rescuer CPR

  • Recue Breathing

  • Use of the bag-valve mask

  • Foreign-body airway obstruction (conscious and unconscious)

  • AED (includes child AED)

  • BLS provider card

HeartCode BLS – Skills Session

Time: Scheduled with Instructor

Location: TBD with Instructor

Cost: $30

Payment for class participants must be made either prior to the class date (during business hours), or the day of class (to the instructor).  Payments must be exact amount by either cash or check, no change will be made and no credit cards will be accepted. Receipt will be provided upon request.  Payments can be made at Marengo Fire Station 1, 120 E. Prairie St. Marengo, IL 60152.
